Mid-day Prayers February

Midday prayers 2010: Relationship not Rules

February

Christian Unity

Mon: Sure and certain hope

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for
and certain of what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1

Our hope is in you, our loving Father,
for you have opened the door of heaven
through your plan of salvation.

Our hope is in you, our saviour, Jesus Christ,
for you have paved the way for us to know
joyous relationship with God.

Our hope is in you, our counsellor, Holy Spirit,
for you have shined a light for us to see
the love of the Father and Son.

Thanks be to God,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Amen

May the God of hope fill us with all joy
and peace as we trust in him,
so that we may overflow with hope
by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Amen

 Tues: Hope in God’s plans

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11

Loving Lord,
grant that I may accept that I am in your hands,
that I cannot conceive of the wonder
of your plans for the world.

Help me to know that you have
a time and a season for all things
and commit myself to your will.

Give me a faith so deep and sure
That I will be obedient to your direction for my life,
confident that you will be with me always.

Amen

Pam Holdgate

May the God of hope fill us with all joy
and peace as we trust in him,
so that we may overflow with hope
by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen

 Wed: Hope in despair

God lifted me out of the pit of despair.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along.
Psalm 40:2

Living God,
We pray for those who have lost hope –
in their dreams,
their circumstances,
or in life itself.
Lord of hopefulness,

hear our prayer.

Living God, there is so much despair in our world,
and for many, there seems little reason to hope.
Reach out to all whose belief in the future has been destroyed,
and grant new dreams where the old have died,
rekindle purpose where confidence has been undermined,
support when there seems to be nothing left to hold on to,
and hope that one day your kingdom will come
and your will be done.
Lord of hopefulness,
hear our prayer,
in the name of Christ.
Amen

Nick Fawcett

May the God of hope fill us with all joy
and peace as we trust in him,

by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen

 Thurs: Hopes and dreams

All glory to God, who is able,
through his mighty power at work within us,
 to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
Ephesians 3:20

Creator of mists
and mystery
open me
to your life,
letting your
story shine out
to the world.

Give me hope.
Living God.
Hope in my hands
to open doors.

Hope in my eyes
to see possibilities.
Hope in my heart
to live by faith:

for it is hope
that rolls away stones.

 Janet Lees

May the God of hope fill us with all joy
and peace as we trust in him,
so that we may overflow with hope
by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen

Fri: Hope to renew strength

Those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31-32

We commend to your care
all who find life too much for them;
those who daily have to face jobs
with which they cannot cope;
those who are daunted by the whole business of living;
those whose families make demands on them
which they cannot meet;
those who cannot summon up the strength
to do the things they know have to be done;
those who feel they cannot go on.

Lord, giver of life, give them life.
Amen

From Further Everyday Prayers
May the God of hope fill us with all joy
and peace as we trust in him,
so that we may overflow with hope
by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen

Sat: Hope of glory

no fears nor hopes, but one equal possession;
no ends nor beginnings, but one equal eternity
in the habitations of your glory and dominion,
world without end.
John Donne
The mystery is that Christ lives in you,
and he is your hope of sharing in God's glory.
Colossians 1:27

Bring us, O Lord, at our last awakening
into the house and gate of heaven,
to enter into that gate and dwell in that house
where shall be no darkness nor dazzling, but one equal light;
no noise nor silence, but one equal music;

May the God of hope fill us with all joy

and peace as we trust in him,
so that we may overflow with hope
by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen
