Harvest
Monday: Seedtime and harvest
Lord of the harvest,
bountiful giver,
we bring you our firstfruits of praise.
Creator God,
we thank you for your promise that while the earth endures
seedtime and harvest, summer and winter,
day and night, shall not fail.
We thank you for the reliability of this good earth,
for the variety of the seasons
and for all the unity and contrasts of creation.
We thank you that we can nourish the miracle of life
upon the miracle of harvest
and we praise you for the dignity
of sharing in the work of your almighty hands.
Dick Williams
Lord of seedtime and harvest,
each year you offer us your rhythm,
the gift of times and seasons.
Time to sow and plant
new plans and projects in the soil of our lives.
Time also to gather and celebrate
the fruit of our labours
and seeds of hope for our future.
Lord of seedtime and harvest:
Grant us the grace of glad and generous hearts.
Clare Amos
Tuesday: Bountiful harvest
Lord of the harvest,
bountiful giver,
we bring you our firstfruits of praise.
You crown the year with a bountiful harvest;
even the hard pathways overflow with abundance.
Psalm 65:11
One crop, one fruit, one seed,
one flower, one creature, one race.
If all creation was one of each kind,
we would overflow with gratitude and praise.
Yet, Lord, we are blessed by your lavish abundance;
we marvel at nature’s diversity.
Lord of the harvest,
we give you thanks for nature’s rich array.
Lord of the harvest,
we give you thanks for creation’s marvellous design.
Lord of the harvest,
bountiful giver,
we bring you our firstfruits of praise.
Wednesday: Thanks for the harvest
Lord of the harvest,
bountiful giver,
we bring you our firstfruits of praise.
We rejoice in the greatness of your love,
the fullness of your provision.
We thank you for the fruits of your creation
the rich variety and plenty of harvest.
Once more you have blessed us,
we give to you our thanks.
We praise you for the human labour
that is part of harvest –
the preparing and sowing,
the cultivating and growing,
the reaping and packaging,
the transporting and selling.
Once more you have blessed us,
we give to you our thanks.
We thank you that we can work with you,
nurturing the fruitfulness of your creation.
Help us to recognise our responsibility
to be faithful stewards of all you have given.
So may our lives as well as our words
offer you our praise and worship.
Once more you have blessed us,
we give to you our thanks.
In the name of Christ.
Amen

Thursday: The harvest has failed
Lord of the harvest,
bountiful giver,
we bring you our firstfruits of praise.
Loving God, bread of life,
we pray for those who are starving for lack of food
whilst we have so much.
Turn our pity into action;
may our actions be the answer to our prayers.
Loving God, water of life,
we pray for those who are thirsting from lack of water
whilst we overflow with all that we need.
Turn our pity into action;
may our actions be the answer to our prayers.
Loving God, Lord of the harvest,
we pray for those who are dying from lack of seeds
whilst we are surrounded by abundance.
Turn our pity into action;
may our actions be the answer to our prayers.
Loving God, generous giver,
we pray for those struggling in dire poverty,
whilst we know riches beyond their imagination.
Turn our pity into action;
may our actions be the answer to our prayers.
Amen
Friday: Sharing the harvest
Lord of the harvest,
bountiful giver,
we bring you our firstfruits of praise.
Those who are generous are blessed,
for they share their food with the poor.
Proverbs 22:9
Risen Lord of the harvest,
as the wild flower scatters its seeds far and wide,
so may your people scatter the seed of hope
in the soils of despair
bringing to growth those good things
that are your gift and promise.
Christopher Burkett
Creator God, for daily bread
and all who work
to bring your harvest home
we bring our thanks today.
Forgive our ingratitude
we who have so much
yet waste what you have given.
For those whose harvest is poor,
whose crops have withered,
water tainted, children starve,
help those who bring relief
and bestow on us
an unaccustomed generosity,
that all might share from your garden
and all might sing your praise.
Creator God, provider of all
we bring our thanks today.

Saturday: Harvest of righteousness
Lord of the harvest,
bountiful giver,
we bring you our firstfruits of praise.
Before the harvest
the ripening,
before the ripening
the growing,
before the growing
the sowing,
before the sowing
the preparation of the soil.
May we be so prepared
for the Spirit’s sowing
that the seed
may grow in fruitful soil
and ripen to a worthy harvest.
Edmund Banyard
God of harvest,
gardener supreme
you place us at the centre
feed us, equip us and
having provided for us
look to a different harvest
a fruitfulness of lives
in service to you
and others.
God of harvest,
feed us
prune us
harvest us
that our lives
might bring glory to you.
