ST JOHN'S, KENILWORTH
TWAM HABERDASHERY PROJECT

St John's MU is working closely with Tools With A Mission (TWAM).

Sewing machines are collected and distributed by TWAM worldwide and the haberdashery project puts together packs of items as listed below, which go with each machine:

Buttons - sorted into at least 5 or 6 - sewn on cards or in small bags
Cottons - all colours, full or nearly full reels
Fasteners - press studs, hooks & eyes
Needles - sewing and machine
Pins - dressmaking and safety
Scissors - dressmaking
Sewing machine screwdriver
Sewing machine bobbins
Tapemeasure
Thimble(s)
Zips
Extras, e.g. binding, elastic, lace, lengths of material

TWAM has a specific distribution policy and one can be sure that goods are received by the 'right' people.

Yvonne Wheeler (01926 857155) is the local co-ordinator for haberdashery and she is a MU Speaker; if you and/or your Branch would like to help in any way do contact Yvonne.

ST JOHN'S, KENILWORTH
GLOBE CAFE, UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK

Kenilworth Deanery MU supports the Globe Cafe at the University of Warwick, which is for international students and is held from 5 pm to 7 pm every Friday in term time. The Cafe is held in the Chaplaincy and is organised by the Christian Union. Each week at least 60 students attend, the majority being non-Christians.

MU provide cakes/cookies for the first week of term and then for three or four evenings per term. We provide a Christmas meal and a meal during their Mission Week (the University meets the expenses for the meals).

Members also attend whenever possible to talk with and befriend students and the photographs are of students on 'Chocolate Night'.

For further information or offers of help contact Barbara Roberts (01926 511783).

ST NICHOLAS, KENILWORTH
CRAFT & CHAT

There have recently been various media reports about the resurgence and popularity of knitting and Craft & Chat at St Nicholas MU was launched in 2005 as a regular group of members that come together to knit for charity. There appears to be no shortage of destinations for many finished articles including Teddies for Tragedy and Prayer Shawls.

Members now also sort materials for TWAM and make recycled greetings cards.

Members would be grateful for any donations of wool and knitting needles and for further information please contact Gloria Trewick (01926 511995).

HARBURY KNITWITS

The members of Harbury MU meet together to knit for charity including baby clothes and blankets for the Special Care Unit at Warwick Hospital, prayer shawls for Myton Hospice and bobble hats for seafarers and refugees.

Shottery MUMS Group

Shottery Branch have recently formed a MUMS group (Mothers' Union Mothers' Support). This is a Mothers' Union initiative where, at Family Services, two named members are part of the "Welcome" to young families. They will also select a young family to follow the elements to the altar when we have Family Eucharist.

Members of the MUMS group have now all been CRB checked and will be helping out when needed with Praise and Play on Wednesday afternoons and with Creche and Fellow Travellers during the Sunday morning services. Shottery Branch was recently asked to help out a single mother who had undergone surgery and was unable to drive. For two weeks before Christmas a rota of MUMS volunteers was organised to take mother and child to nursery at 8am every morning and to pick up mother to collect the child every evening. The mother was very appreciative and we were pleased we could give her some practical help.
