Fishermen's hats

Fishermen's woolly hats are easy to knit, and even if you can't knit, you could make the pompoms to go on them. Bright colours are popular with our maritime friends!

Fishermen's Hat - one size

Difficulty level: Easy

Head circumference: 21" (53 cm)

Materials: 100 % wool worsted weight yarn 100 g.
Needles: 6 (4.00 mm)

Gauge: 15 st = 4" (10 cm)

Pattern:           Fisherman's Rib.
Cast on even amount of stitches
Rows 1: *1 k, 1 p* repeat from * to *
Row 2: 1 k, yo, sl 1 (slip stitch from left to right needle)
Row 3: 1 k on yo and sl 1 from the prev row, yo, sl1
Row 4: Repeat row 3

Garter Stitch:
All rows - knit.

Directions:
Cast on 74 sts (including edge stitches).
Knit fisherman's rib pattern for 27 cm (11").
Knit garter stitch for 4 rows decreasing half of the stitches in the 1st garter stitch row.
Cut yarn, leaving a 10" (25 cm) tail. Pull through remaining sts and secure.

Finishing:
Join the back seam.
Make a pompon and sew it on the top of the hat.
