Coventry programme Competition 2009

 When we looked at the programmes we first considered some general points:

   Was the Mothers’ Union logo on the programme and which one was used?

   Were there sufficient contact numbers so that someone new to Mothers’ Union would know who and how to contact?

   Did it contain clear information as to what Mothers’ Union is? – ie some included Mothers’ Union Prayer and Objectives but others did not.

   Did it use ‘jargon’ – ie what would Deanery Godmother mean to those not in the know?

   Did it state clearly the branch and diocese?

   General advice – only use one logo – using several sends out mixed messages – preferably the current logo.

Reflection on Mothers’ Union Objectives

One branch had every Objective covered in the programme.  We particularly liked it because it included a mixture of serious and light-hearted talks – ie Parenting and Creative crafts for newly-weds.  There were several contact numbers and also the Mothers’ Union Prayer.

   Winner – St Mary’s Mothers’ Union, Atherstone

Exploring the theme

The winner had made an effort to cover theme with, for example, speakers on Cost of Relationships plus ‘a lively discussion on marriage and family life’ - again different ways of approaching the subject.  There were good contact numbers, good use of logo and an attractive picture of the Banner on the front.

   Winner – Dunchurch and Thurlaston Mothers’ Union.

Overall winner

This programme had good contact numbers, attractive presentation, lots of clear information about where they met and good information about Mothers’ Union.  No one would have any doubt as to what Mothers’ Union stood for. Advice – there was an excessive use of logos with different colour blues – 2 new logos, 2 old logos, one Diocese of Coventry logo.  Do not be afraid to have white space – gives the programme a clear, modern look and one logo helps to maintain the corporate identity.

   Winner – Holy Trinity, Attleborough
