We are nearing Christmas again and after such a good response last year to our appeal for gifts and cards for prisoners’ children and for the men themselves, we are asking if you would like to contribute this year. Chris Cooke has been asked by the prison and needs to know numbers of those interested in donating gifts. Christmas cards are available to be written if you wish or provide your own.
The knitters are still very busy. Prayer Shawls for Myton Hospice have been requested as well as premature baby clothes, and gloves or mittens to go with hats and scarves. Blanket squares should be made up into blankets if at all possible, please, and any knitted items that can go out with the Christmas boxes such as jumpers, etc are very welcome. Well done to all our knitters!
A news item in the local paper recently was very encouraging. It told of the Mothers’ Union in Kineton that have been sending boxes of sweets out to the armed forces. Peggy Shiner, who is now 100, started this a few years ago and it has now become an MU project – what an inspiration! Liz Beaumont in Kineton is the new contact for this.
Please tell us at A&O of your interesting projects and be inspired to try new things in your branches.
We have had a request from the Coventry Jesus Centre asking for men’s clothing for the homeless. If anyone has any, they would be very pleased to receive them. Coventry Jesus Centre 7 Lamb Street Coventry CV1 4AE Phone: 024 76 550033
The Relief Fund has sent £20,000 to regions in North Kenya affected by the drought and the influx of refugees from Sudan. Maybe you would like to do a fund raising event for this worthwhile cause? If you are, or have already done something, please tell Chris and A&O or send the info to Link Up.
Thanks to all of you who work for Mothers’ Union in any way as it makes a difference to someone somewhere!
Chris Cooke
