(make 1 piece) First leg: With Corn, cast on 12 sts for front paw edge. 1st row: Inc in each st to end - 24 sts. Beginning with a p row, ss 5 rows. Dec row: [K3, K2tog] 4 times, K4 - 20 sts. Ss 11 rows. Place marker each end of last row. ** Break yarn and leave sts on st holder. Second leg: Work as first leg to **. Joining row: K across these 20 sts, then K across 20 sts of first leg - 40 sts. Ss 5 rows. To shape for body: Inc row: [K4, inc] to end - 48 sts. Ss 23 rows. To shape back body: 1st dec row: [K2, K2tog] to end - 36 sts. P 1 row. 2nd dec row: [K1, K2tog] to end - 24 sts. P1 row. 3rd dec row: [K2tog] to end - 12 sts. Break yarn leaving an end. Run end through sts, but do not draw up.

HEAD (make 1 piece) With Corn, cast on 18 sts for back of head. 1st row: Inc in each st to end - 36 sts. Beginning with a p row, ss 25 rows. Shape front end: 1st dec row: [Kl, .K2tog] to end - 24 sts. P 1 row. 2nd dec row: [K2tog] to end - 12 sts. Break yarn leaving an end. Thread through sts, draw up and fasten off.

EARS (make 2 pieces) With Corn, cast on 10 sts for outer edge and K 1 row. Dec row: [P2tog] to end - 5 sts. Break yarn leaving an end. Thread through sts, draw up tightly and fasten off.

BACK LEGS (make 2 pieces) With Corn, cast on 12 sts for paw edge. 1st row: Inc in each st to end - 24 sts. Beginning with a p row, ss 11 rows. 1st dec row: [K3, K2tog] 4 times, K4 - 20 sts. Shape top: Dec 1 st each end of next row and the 8 following alternate rows - 2 sts. K2tog and fasten off.

MANE (For one lion only (Male)) (make 1 piece) Wth Majestic Mink, cast on 13 sts for back neck. 1st row: K, increasing in each st to end - 26 sts. 2nd row: K to end. 3rd row: [K1, inc] to end - 39 sts. 4th row (wrong side): Work loop 1 into each st to end. 5th row: K1b into each st to end. Repeat 4th and 5th rows, twice more. Keeping pattern correct, cast off 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then 4 sts on following 4 rows - 11 sts. Pattern 2 rows. Cast off. TAIL (make 1 piece) With Majestic Mink, cast on 4 sts. 1st row: Inc in each st to end - 8 sts. K 1 row. Work 4th and 5th rows of loop pattern on mane, twice. K 1 row. Change to Corn. Beginning with a k row, ss 2 rows, then inc 1 st each end of next row and the following 4th row - 12 sts. Ss 3 rows. Cast off.

TO MAKE UP Fold legs and body in half matching all markers, and join row-ends above markers as far as sts on thread. With this seam to centre of underbody, join each inner leg seam, continuing round cast-on edge. Stuff legs and body, then draw up sts on thread and fasten off securely. Fold head in half and join row-ends for under seam. Stuff, then fold cast-on edge flat and join for back of head. Beginning 8 rows back from leg joint, sew head to body. Using Black, work French knots for eyes halfway up face and 6 stitches apart, winding yarn 4 times round needle for each knot. Work nose and mouth in Black straight stitches. With cast-on edge to back neck, sew mane in place, bringing ends to meet under head at centre front. Sew gathered edge of ears to head each side of last cast-off group on mane. Fold tail in half and join seam, then bind base of Majestic Mink section with Majestic Mink yarn. Sew cast-off edges to back of body over drawn up stitches. Join straight row-ends of back legs to form inner side seam, continuing round cast-on edges for paw. Stuff and sew shaped row-ends to sides of body, beginning each side of tail. With Black, embroider 3 long stitches round top of each paw for claws.

Elephant

LEFT SIDE BODY AND LEGS (make 1 piece) 1st leg: With Parchment, cast on 4 sts. For sole: 1st row: Inc in each st to end - 8 sts. 2nd row: P to end. 3rd row: Inc in each st to end - 16 sts. 4th row: K to end. Beginning with a k row, ss 16 rows. * Break yarn and leave sts on a st holder. 2nd leg: Work as 1st leg to *. Joining row: K16 sts of 2nd leg, turn and cast on 8 sts, turn and k across 16 sts of 1st leg - 40 sts. ** Ss 21 rows. Mark each end of 7th row. Shape back: 1st row: Cast off 4 sts for tail end, K to last 2 sts, dec for neck end. 2nd row: P2tog, p to end. Repeat last 2 rows, 5 times more - 4 sts. Cast off.

RIGHT SIDE BODY AND LEGS (make 1 piece) Work as given for left side body and legs to **. Ss 22 rows. Mark each end of 7th row. Shape back: 1st row: Cast off 4 sts for tail end, p to last 2 sts, dec for neck end. 2nd row: K2tog, K to end. Repeat last 2 rows, 5 times more - 4 sts. Cast off.

UNDERBODY (make 2 pieces) Work as given for left side body and legs to **. Ss 7 rows. Cast off. HEAD (make 1 piece) With Parchment, cast on 5 sts for end of trunk. 1st row: Inc in each st to end - 10 sts. P 2 rows. Beginning with a p row, ss 20 rows. Inc 1 st each end of next row - 12 sts. Ss 8 rows. Shape front of head: 1st increase row: K1, [up1, k1] to end - 23 sts. Ss 3 rows. 2nd increase row: K5, up1, [k1, up1] to last 6 sts, K6 - 36 sts. Ss 25 rows. Shape back of head: 1st dec row: K2tog, K10, K2togb, K8, K2tog, K10, K2tog. 2nd dec row: P2tog, p9, p2tog, p6, p2togb, p9, p2tog. 3rd dec row: K2tog, K8, K2togb, K4, K2tog, K8, K2tog. 4th dec row: P2tog, p7, p2tog, p2, p2togb, p7, p2tog. 5th dec row: [K2tog, K2] to end. 6th dec row: [P2tog] to last st, p1 - 8 sts. EARS (make 2 pieces) With Parchment, cast on 14 sts, for head edge. Working in gst, k 1 row, then inc 1 st each end of next row and the 4 following alternate rows - 24 sts. Gst 12 rows. Dec 1 st each end of the next 3 rows - 18 sts. Cast off.

TAIL (make 1 piece) With Parchment, cast on 6 sts. Ss 16 rows. Next row: [K2tog] 3 times - 3 sts. Break yarn leaving an end. Thread through sts, draw up tightly and fasten off.

TUSKS (make 2 pieces) With Cream, cast on 6 sts. Ss 8 rows. Dec row: [K2tog] 3 times - 3 sts. Break yarn leaving an end. Thread through sts, draw up tightly and fasten off.

TO MAKE UP Sew cast-off edges of underbody pieces together, then with ends of this centre join to markers, sew body legs and soles of sides to underbody legs and soles. Sew remaining sides of body together leaving neck open, then stuff. Fold head and trunk in half and join row-ends, leaving an opening. Stuff, then close opening. Sew head to neck edge, with side seam to body. Run a gathering thread round outer edges of each ear, leaving cast-off edge free. Draw up slightly to create a curve and fasten off. Sew cast-on edge of ears to each side of head. Fold tusks in half and join row-ends. Sew cast-on edge to each side of head just above trunk. Join row-ends of tail and sew cast-on edge to back end of body. Using Black, embroider a French knot for each eye, winding yarn 4 times round needle for each knot, then work a straight stitch for mouth behind tusks, just above trunk.

Giraffe

LEFT SIDE BODY AND LEGS (make 1 piece) Front Leg: With Black, cast on 2 sts. For sole: 1st row: Inc in each st - 4 sts. 2nd row: P to end. 3rd row: K1, inc in each of next 2 sts, K1 - 6sts. P 2 rows. Beginning with a p row, ss 5 rows. Break off Black, join in Corn. ** Join in Majestic Mink and stranding yarn not in use loosely across wrong side of work, follow chart A for markings where necessary, reading k rows from right to left, and p rows from left to right, work shapings thus: Beginning with a k row, ss 8 rows, then inc 1 st at beginning of next row and the 2 following 6th rows - 9 sts. Ss 9 rows. Cast on 4 sts at beginning of next row, and inc 1 st at beginning of following row, then cast on 3 sts at beginning of next row - 17 sts. Ss 1 row, turn and cast on 3 sts. Break yarn and leave these 20 sts on a spare needle. Back leg: Work as front leg to **. Following chart A for markings, beginning with a k row, ss 18 rows. Inc 1 st at end of next row - 7 sts. Ss 1 row. Dec 1 st at beginning, and inc 1 st at end of next row, then inc 1 st at end of the 2 following alternate rows. Ss 1 row. Repeat last 6 rows, once more - 11 sts. Dec 1 st at beginning and inc 1st at end of next row. Ss 1 row - 11 sts. Joining row: Pattern across 11 sts of back leg, then pattern across 20sts of front leg - 31sts. Inc 1 st at front edge of next row and following 4th row - 33 sts. *** Mark each end of last row. Ss 8 rows. To shape back and neck edges: 1st row. Cast off 5 sts for back edge, pattern to end. 2nd row: Cast off 4 sts for neck edge, pattern to end. NECK (make 1 piece) With Corn, cast on 8 sts and ss 2 rows. Joining in Majestic Mink, following chart B for markings where necessary, and noting that chart is showing left side of neck only and right side of neck markings are worked as a mirror image, work shapings thus: Cast on 4 sts at beginning of next 4 rows - 24 sts. Dec 1 st each end of next row and following alternate row - 20 sts. Pattern 1 row. Neck shaping row: Dec, pattern 7, inc for 1st side of neck, inc, pattern 7, dec for 2nd side of neck. Pattern 2 rows. Repeat last 3 rows, 5 times more - 20 sts. Dec 1 st each end of next row and 2 following 3rd rows - 14 sts. Pattern 5 rows to complete chart. Break off Majestic Mink. To shape neck: 1st and 2nd rows: K3, ytf, sl1, ytb, turn, sl1, p3. 3rd row: K across all sts. 4th and 5th rows: P3, ytb, sl1, ytf, turn, sl1, p3. 6th row: P across all sts. Cast off.

HEAD (make 1 piece) With Corn, cast on 10 sts for back of head. Ss 2 rows. Inc row: Inc in each st to end - 20 sts. Ss 5 rows. To shape nose: 1st dec row: K1, [k2tog, k2] to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 - 15 sts. Ss 3 rows. 2nd dec row: [K2tog, k1] to end - 10 sts. Ss 3 rows. Break off Corn, join in Majestic Mink. Ss 6 rows. Dec row: [K2tog] 5 times - 5 sts. Break yarn leaving an end. Thread through sts, draw up and fasten off.

TAIL (make 1 piece) With Corn, cast on 6 sts. Ss 16 rows. Dec row: [K2tog) 3 times. Break yarn leaving an end. Thread through sts, draw up tightly and fasten off, then join row-ends. Using 4 x 6 cm lengths of Majestic Mink yarn, fold in half and loop folded end through end of tail, push cut ends through loop and pull up tight to form a tassel. Trim tassel to even ends.

EARS (make 2 pieces) With Corn, cast on 6 sts. Ss 4 rows. Dec 1 st each end of next row - 4 sts. P 1 row. Next row: K1, k2tog, k1 - 3 sts. P 1 row. Next row: Sl1, k2tog, pass slipped st over and fasten off.

HORNS (make 2 pieces) With Majestic Mink, cast on 6 sts and k 1 row. Cast off kwise.

TO MAKE UP Sew cast-off edges of underbody pieces together, then with ends of this centre join to markers, sew body and legs to underbody. Sew remaining sides of body together, leaving neck open, then stuff. Fold neck in half and join row-ends for back seam. Stuff, then with back seam to top seam of body, sew cast-on edges to neck opening. Fold head in half and join row-ends. Stuff, then with this seam to centre, fold cast-on edge in half and join seam. Sew head to top of neck. Fold cast-on edge of ears in half and sew to each side of head. Work a Black French knot for each eye, winding yarn 4 times round needle for each knot. Sew tail to back of body. Sew end of each horn between ears.

Zebra

LEFT SIDE BODY AND LEGS (make 1 piece) Front leg: With Black, cast on 2 sts. For sole: 1st row: Inc in each st - 4 sts. 2nd row: P to end. 3rd row: K1`, inc in each of next 2 sts, k1 - 6 sts. P 2 rows. Beginning with a p row, ss 5 rows. ** Joining in White and stranding yarn not in use loosely across wrong side of work, follow chart C for markings where necessary, reading k rows from right to left and p rows from left to right, work shaping thus: Beginning with a k row, ss 6 rows, then inc 1 st at beginning of next row and following 6th row - 8 sts. Ss 5 rows, turn and cast on 14 sts. Break yarn and leave these 22 sts on a spare needle. Back leg: Work as front leg to **. Joining in White, following chart C, beginning with a k row, ss 6 rows, then inc 1 st at end of next row and the 5 following alternate rows - 12 sts. Ss 1 row. Joining row: Pattern across 12 sts of back leg, then pattern across 22 sts of front leg - 34 sts. *** Inc 1 st at front edge on next row and 7 following alternate rows - 42 sts. Mark each end of 5th of these rows. For neck: Ss 1 row, then dec 1 st at front edge on next row, then at each end of following alternate row 39 sts. Work 1 row. To divide for back and neck: Next row: Dec, pattern 7, turn and work on these sts for neck. 1st row: Dec, pattern to end. 2nd row: Dec, pattern to last 2 sts, dec. Repeat last 2 rows, once. K2tog and fasten off. Return to dividing row. With wrong side facing, rejoin yarn and cast off centre 16 sts, pattern to last 2 sts, dec - 13 sts. Next row: Dec, pattern 9, dec. Cast off remaining 11 sts.

MANE (make 1 piece) With Black, cast on 20 sts and k 2 rows. Work 4th and 5th rows as lions mane. K 1 row. Cast off.

TO MAKE UP Sew cast-off edges of underbody pieces together, then with ends of this centre join to markers, sew body and legs to underbody. Sew remaining sides of body together, leaving neck open, then stuff. Fold head in half and join row-ends. Stuff, then with this seam to centre, fold cast-on edge in half and join seam. Sew head to neck edges. Fold cast-on edge of ears in half and sew to each side of head. Work a Black French knot for each eye, winding yarn 4 times round needle for each knot. Sew tail to back of body. Beginning at top of head between ears, sew mane down back of head and body.

Camel

LEFT SIDE BODY AND LEGS (make 1 piece) Front leg: With Mango, cast on 4 sts. For sole: 1st row: Inc in each st to end - 8 sts. 2nd row: P to end. 3rd row: Inc in each st to end - 16 sts. Ss 5 rows. Shape top of foot: 1st dec row: K4, [k2tog, k2] 3 times - 13 sts. Ss 1 row. 2nd dec row: K4, [k2tog, k1] 3 times - 10 sts. Ss 1 row. 3rd dec row: K4, [k2tog] 3 times - 7 sts. ** Ss 13 rows, then inc 1 st each end of next row - 9 sts. Ss 13 rows, turn and cast on 12 sts. Break yarn and leave these 21 sts on a spare needle. Back leg: Work as front leg to **. Ss 13 rows. Inc 1 st at end of next row and the 4 following alternate rows - 12 sts. Ss 5 rows. Joining row: K across 12 sts of back leg, then k across 21 sts of front leg - 33 sts. Cast on 4 sts at beginning of next row - 37 sts. *** Ss 1 row. Cast on 2 sts at beginning of next row and and the 2 following alternate rows. Mark each end of 4th of these rows. Ss 1 row, then inc 1 st at beginning of next row and the following alternate row - 45 sts. Ss 6 rows. To shape back: Next row: Dec, k30, turn, leaving remaining 13 sts on a spare needle for neck. Dec 1 st each end of next row - 29 sts. To divide for humps: Next row: K16, turn and work on these sts for back hump. Back hump: Dec 1 st at end of next row and 2 following alternate rows, then dec 1st each end of next 4 rows. Cast off remaining 5 sts. Return to dividing row, rejoin yarn and cast off centre 2 sts, k remaining 10 sts and work on these 11 sts for centre hump. Centre hump: Dec 1 st at beginning of next row and following alternate row, ss 1 row, then dec 1 st at beginning only of the next 4 rows. Dec 1 st at end of next row. Cast off remaining 4 sts. Return to sts on spare needle, rejoin yarn to inner end and cast off 3 sts, k to end and work on these 10 sts for neck. For neck: Ss 2 rows. Next row: Cast off 2 sts, p to last 2 sts, dec. K 1 row. Repeat last 2 rows, once more. Cast off 2 sts. at beginning of next row. Cast off remaining 2 sts.

NECK HAIR (make 1 piece) With Mango, cast on 24 sts and work as mane of Zebra.

TO MAKE UP Sew cast-off edges of underbody pieces together, then with ends of this centre join to markers, sew body legs and soles of sides and underbody legs and soles. Sew remaining sides of body and humps together, leaving neck open, then stuff. Fold head in half and join row-ends. Stuff, then with this seam in centre, fold cast-on edge flat, and join seam. Sew head to neck edge. Sew gathered edge of ears to sides of head. Sew tail to back of body. With Black, work French knots for eyes, winding yarn 4 times round needle for each knot. With Black, work a "Y" shape for mouth, then embroider a French knot in Mango each side of mouth for nostrils. Beginning at base of head, sew neck hair down centre front seam of body.

Tiger

HEAD (make 1 piece) With A, cast on 18 sts for front edge. P 1 row. Inc row: Inc kwise in each st to end - 36 sts. Ss 7 rows. Carrying yarn not in use loosely along wrong side of work, pattern thus: 1st row: K4A, 4B, 20A, 4B, 4A. 2nd row: P6A, 6B, 12A, 6B, 6A. With A, ss 2 rows. 5th and 6th rows: As 1st and 2nd rows. 7th row: K10A, 4B, 8A, 4B, 10A. With A, ss 2 rows. 10th row: P4A, 4B, 20A, 4B, 4A. 11th row: K6A, 24B, 6A. EARS (make 2 pieces) With A, cast on 10 sts for outer edge. K 1 row. Dec row: [P2tog] to end - 5 sts. Break yarn leaving an end. Thread end through sts, draw up tightly and fasten off.

TO MAKE UP Join front and back leg seams, then sew row-ends of underbody to body as far as markers. Join sides of body and underbody together, leaving neck edge open. Stuff legs and body. Fold head in half and join row-ends together. Stuff, then with this seam to centre, fold cast-on edge in half and join seam. Sew head to neck edge. Using Black, embroider eyes with few straight stitches halfway up face and 5 stitches apart, then work inverted triangle for nose and straight stitches for mouth. Sew gathered edge of ears to head. Fold tail in half and join seam from cast-on edge to beginning of shaping. If desired, cut 8 cm off bendy end of straw and insert into tail, then stuff slightly around the straw. Sew shaped edge to back of body.

Join row-ends of ears, position on head and sew in place. With Black, embroider eyes, nose and mouth. Join body pieces together, leaving cast-off edge open. Stuff body and close opening. Sew head to body. Join row-ends of arms and legs, leaving top edge open. Stuff arms and placing top edge of arms to neck edge, sew on arms. Cut 8 cm of bendy end of straws. TO MAKE UP Insert straight edge of back spike into opening on head and body piece, placing end with largest spike at head end, sew up opening. Sew head and body to underbody easing in edges, leaving an opening. Stuff and close opening. Join row-ends of legs to within 4 rows of cast on edge. Stuff legs, omitting feet, then with seam to inside, sew legs to sides of body. Join row-ends of eyeballs together. Stuff, then gather cast-on edge, draw up tightly and secure. Join row-ends of outer eye pieces together. Insert eyeballs into outer eyes and secure in place. Sew eyes to top of head. Work a Black French knot for each nostril.

BASE (make 2 pieces) With Cardinal, cast on 4 sts. Beginning with a k row, continuing in ss, work 1 row, then inc 1 st each end of next row and the 5 following alternate rows, then the 10 following 4th rows - 36 sts. Ss 46 rows. Dec 1 st each end of next row and the 10 following 4th rows, then the 5 following alternate rows - 4 sts. P 1 row. Cast off.

HOUSE SIDES (make 2 pieces) With Cardinal, cast on 32 sts and work 36 rows in ridge pattern given on ark sides. Cast off.

HOUSE ENDS (make 2 pieces) With Cardinal, cast on 24 sts and work 36 rows in ridge pattern given on ark sides. HOUSE BASE (make 1 piece) With Cardinal, cast on 20 sts. Beginning with a k row, ss 40 rows. Cast off.

ROOF (make 1 piece) With Royal, cast on 33 sts and k 4 rows. 1st and 2nd pattern rows: With Royal, k3, [p3, k3] to end. Join in Cardinal. 3rd and 4th pattern rows: With Cardinal, k3, [p3, k3] to end. Repeat last 4 rows, 14 times more. K 4 rows with Royal. Cast off.

DOORS (make 2 pieces) With Royal, cast on 24 sts and k 4 rows. 1st row: K to end. 2nd row: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2. 3rd and 4th rows: K to end. Repeat last 4 rows, 3 times more. K 2 more rows. Cast off. Doves (make 2)

BODY (make 1 piece) With Cream, cast on 14 sts for front edge. Working every row k, work 3 rows, then dec 1 st at end only on each of the next 10 rows - 4 sts. Cast off. TAIL (make 1 piece) With Cream, cast on 10 sts for outer edge and k 1 row. Dec row: [P2tog] to end - 5 sts. Break yarn leaving an end. Thread through sts, draw up tightly and fasten off.

TO MAKE UP Press pieces lightly as given on ball band. Cut 2 card pieces, using sides as pattern, omitting depth of last 6 rows at top, then one shape of base. Join row-ends of 2 side pieces together, then with cast-on and cast-off edges to end of these seams, sew one base shape to cast-on edges. Make up lining pieces in the same way. Place base card shape, then lining inside main shape and catch outer edges of lining base to edges of main base. Tape ends of side card shaped together, insert between outer sides and lining, fold last 6 rows of lining to wrong side and catch to outer sides 6 rows down from cast-off edge, allowing edge to roll in, then join rolled edge together for about 1 cm at each point. Using pieces as pattern, cut one strip of card to fit sides and roof of house, cut 2 pieces, using house ends for pattern, then one for house base. Join straight row-ends of house ends to row-ends of sides, then sew on roof, leaving 3 sts and 4 rows free all round edge of roof. Sew a door to each end. Score and fold long piece of card to fit shape for roof. Tape card pieces together into house shape. Insert into knitting and sew in knitted base, allowing house side and ends to roll under card shape. Sew base of sides to centre of ark top within rolled edge. Fold cast-on edge of each dove in half and join row-ends for back slope. Stuff lightly then join cast-on edges for front. Sew gathered end of tail to back end. Bind opposite corner of back slope with White, approximately 0.5 cm from corner for head, then oversew tip of head with Yellow for beak. Fold 5 cm of Green in half and thread through beak and catch in place for leaf. Sew doves to roof. Make two 53 cm/21 in length chunky twisted cords with Cardinal yarn, and attach to each side for handles.
