About
Coventry Diocese
The Anglican Diocese
of Coventry is made up of 9 Deaneries in 2 Archdeaconries, and the structure
of the Mothers' Union follows the same pattern.
Geographically
the diocese extends from Shipston Deanery in the south, on the Oxfordshire
border, to Atherstone (Nuneaton Deanery) in the north, and from Rugby
Deanery in the east to Alcester Deanery in the west. The City of Coventry
with its Cathedral sits almost in the centre.
For a list of
all MU Branches within the diocese, see Membership
The
Structure of Coventry MU
Coventry MU has
a Diocesan President, Felicity Hawke, who
was elected by the Diocesan Council in 2003. She is supported by two Vice-Presidents,
Mary James and Evelyn
Warwick, who were also elected by the Diocesan Council in 2003. The
post of Diocesan Secretary is held by Viv
Hopkins.
The Board of Trustees,
who must ensure that everything is done in accordance with the law, and
what is considered to be good practice, is made up of the above plus six
General Trustees, Pam Brown, Margot
Grant, Heather Greaves, Wendy
O'Brien, Barbara Roberts and Di
Sliwinski, and the four Unit Co-ordinators.
The four Units
are:
Action & Outreach
The MU in Coventry is active locally in many ways, providing knitted
baby clothes for premature babies, sewing gowns for still-born babies,
supporting women's refuges, organising parenting courses and toddler
groups (For more information see Projects) Through Action & Outreach,
Coventry MU also raises about £4,000 a year to support families overseas
with education and healthcare, and provides practical equipment such
as sewing machines, knitting wool and sheets. The MU Relief Fund provides
emergency aid in countries that have experienced war, famine or natural
disasters. (For more information see Overseas)
The Action & Outreach Unit
Co-ordinator is Chris Cooke
Faith
& Policy (Formerly Prayer & Spirituality)
As an organisation, our spiritual life underpins all we do, say and
believe. Coventry MU has nine Prayer Chains which respond to requests
for prayer for anyone who needs emergency prayer, often accidents, operations,
or sudden illness. MU members throughout the world pray daily at Midday,
forming a 'wave of prayer'. We also arrange 'Quiet Days', giving the
opportunity to spend time in reflection and prayer. (For further information
see The Spirit Within)
The Faith & Policy Unit Co-ordinator
is Valerie Benskin
Finance & Administration
This Unit is responsible for the administration of the Diocese, the
lynch-pin for smooth and efficient running of Coventry MU. The MU is
a registered charity and accountable to the Charity Commissioners. The
Trustees are responsible for ensuring that the money raised by members
through subscriptions and fund raising is used carefully and wisely.
The F & A Unit Co-ordinator
is Jill Montgomery
Marketing
The Marketing Unit is responsible for the presentation of the diocesan
