Please Pray ...

Many of you will know that Coventry Diocesan Mothers’ Union is linked to dioceses in Madagascar, Zambia and Nigeria, and we share a few days in the Wave of Prayer on 21st-25th March. You may have received a Prayer Leaflet specially for those few days, but I want to ask you to add some extra prayers for Madagascar. I was alerted to the fact that there has been a severe hurricane in the Indian Ocean in February, which has struck the eastern coast of Madagascar. Below is an extract from an email from Toamasina diocese, one of our links, written by Marie Peirrette, the President. She only recently learnt English, and I have left it in her own words, just corrected some of the spelling!

We have consecrated these 40 days before Easter day for sharing Gospel, food and clothes in the villages where poverty take a huge place in the people life, You see in one picture our procession through the village before coming in church with the people who become believers. At each village we visited we stay 2 days for living their life: we take lunch in the ground with them, we sleep on the ground in the delabrate church ,so that they can trust on what we do and the message would be passed easily. Last time an hurricane have passed and there are many people in disaster and more food and clothes are necessary for helping them…

I am attaching the news item from the BBC website (click here to read the BBC news article) and you will see there has been substantial loss of life and damage. Please pray for the people of Madagascar, a place that we rarely hear about in the news here. If I have any information from Mary Sumner House about a Relief Fund grant being sent out, I’ll let you know, but I’m sure the Relief Fund would welcome extra contributions anyway.

Thanks for your prayers.

Felicity
