Bishop of Coventry Retires The Bishop of Coventry, Rt Rev Colin Bennetts, retired at the end of January, and a farewell service was held in the Cathedral on 1st December. The Mothers' Union were asked to help with the catering after the service, and came up trumps with about 700 portions of cake, assembled from all over the diocese. Members also signed a giant greetings card which was delivered just before Christmas to Bishop's House. The following letter was received shortly afterwards. "I was on the point of writing to thank you and all the Mothers' Union, for the wonderful cakes that you provided for our farewell service, when lovely sheets of signatures along with a calendar and the promise of a rose hit my desk! Thank you so much for such kind thoughts. "It has been a real highlight for me over the past ten years to track the growth of the MU and to leave it in such good heart. I have enjoyed hugely the various occasions that we have shared in the cathedral, various churches and even in a tent. "So we thank God for you all, and pray his rich blessing on your continuing ministry. Veronica joins me in sending warmest greetings. We shall take with us very happy memories of you all." We shall be sending them two Family Life roses later in the spring when they have had a chance to get their new garden in order. |
